Yarkeen Yaang | Swamp Dreaming - Half Day or Full Day
The tour commences at the Lake Condah (Tae Rak) Aquaculture Centre where you will be met by your Gunditjmara cultural guide.
Travel to Tyrendarra (15 mins) for a guided cultural walk of the Tyrendarra Indigenous Protected Area (IPA), an essential part of the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape. Your guide will cover
- Wetlands and Wildlife
- Walking Tracks / Boardwalks
- Stone Huts - Both Reconstructed and in-situ
- Fish Traps / Eel Baskets
After this you will visit Kurtonitj, with it's historical stone kooyang (eel) traps and stone channels, stone house sites and eel smoking trees. Enjoy morning tea, before a guided walk. Your guide will show you these sites, as well as an area of lava flow featuring two weirs and a dam associated with trapping and holding kooyang.
After yoru visit to Kurtonitj, you will transfer back to the Lake Condah Aquaculture Centre for lunch. Half Day Tour ends after lunch.
Full Day Tour participants then enjoy a guided cultural walk of Tae Rak (Lake Condah) and the fish traps over the weir, with key features of interest including:
- Extensive range of stone aquaculture sites
- Stone walls
- Birdlife and other wildlife
The full day tour finishes at approx 4pm.
The half day tour tour finishes after lunch at approx 1pm.
