DESCRIPTION
The tour commences at the Lake Condah (Tae Rak) Aquaculture Centre where you will be met by your Gunditjmara cultural guide.
Here you will enjoy a guided cultural walk of tae Rak (Lake Condah) and the fish traps over the weir, with key features of interest including:
- Extensive range of stone aquaculture sites
- Stone walls
- Birdlife and other wildlife
Following this you will visit Kurtonitj in the centre of the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape. Kurtonitj (meaning 'crossing place') has historical stone kooyang (eel) traps and stone channels, stone house sites and eel smoking trees. Your guide will show you these sites, as well as an area of lava flow featuring two weirs and a dam associated with trapping and holding kooyang.
The tour finishes back at the Lake Condah (Tae Rak) Aquaculture Centre at approx 4pm.
